Deaf of Peces, Hungary

A visit to the Deaf Club, where the Deaf community enjoys fellowship in its own heart language

Kaori James, IMB Deaf Personnel serving in Hungary:
The name of the city is Peces. Here in the main square of Peces the buildings within the town of Peces make it very beautiful city.

The sign behind me has the Hungarian word "Sinosz". This indicates that this is the location of the Deaf Club of Peces, a city south of Budapest, Hungary. The Deaf Club here in Peces (Hungarian Sign for Peces shown) is where the Deaf of the city gather together. The city itself is very beautiful!

Let me introduce you to the Deaf Club of Peces. The Deaf Club serves to preserve much of the Deaf history and culture of the people where trophies received on behalf of the Deaf of Peces are retained. There is a History Hall where pictures from as far back as when the club was under the communist reign are displayed. Two walls are covered in photos showing a visual history of the Deaf of Peces with photos of significant events and celebrations significant to the Deaf Hungarian lifestyle. There is also a wall where Deaf folks have left their signatures. Someone, instead of a signature, drew the popular American hand shape for "I love you". The Deaf Club is not only a place of historical significance but where the Deaf gather to plan future events as well as to socialize and fellowship. Significant discussions among the Deaf elders last for hours while others gather around a pool table to visit and play. The Deaf Club offers the Deaf Community a place where information and news of current events can be readily shared in their heart language.

Steven James, IMB Deaf Personnel serving in Hungary:
You have just been introduced to the Deaf Club of Peces in the country of Hungary. The city of Peces is extraordinarily beautiful and rich in history. Even so, it is the Deaf of Peces that my wife, Kaori, and I have grown so deeply to love. The Deaf of Peces are wonderful people!

I am passionate about wanting the Deaf of Peces to know how God much loves them and that they might know that He gave only His son, Jesus, to save them. Please join me an praying for the Deaf of Peces.

Pecs (pronounced "paych") is a town in the Transdanubia region of Hungary. The city is situated near the border of Croatia and has the title of being "The Borderless City". It is a city that is full of rich history and interesting sights consisting of museums, mosques, churches, and Roman ruins. Pecs has a variety of religious architecture and early Christian influence and at one time was a significant Christian center, but today there are few followers of Christ and no Deaf church or fellowship exists in the city of Peces.
